We all know that we should be getting adequate sleep. If you keep up with the news and current research, the reasons seem to be piling up. Let me give you one more.
Two recent studies, highlighted in this article, researched the effects of a poor night’s sleep on our food choices. One study showed that we are less resistant to unhealthy food choices when we don’t get adequate sleep. The other studied the reward center in our brain. When we are sleep deprived, the reward center is more active towards unhealthy foods vs healthy foods. With both of these factors at play, we are much more likely to succumb to unhealthy food temptations throughout the day when we are sleep deprived. So tuck yourself in a little earlier to bed tonight. You may be setting yourself up to make healthier food choices come tomorrow morning.
